The agency also operates a branch office in Mbarara, a region known for its robust dairy farming, and maintains an analytical laboratory in the Lugogo area of Kampala, which supports its regulatory functions.
Mandate and Functions
The primary mandate of the DDA includes:
- Promotion of Dairy Development: Encouraging and facilitating increased milk production through training, resource provision, and support to dairy farmers.
- Regulation of Dairy Products: Ensuring the quality and safety of dairy products through rigorous testing and compliance with national and international standards.
- Implementation of Dairy Policies: Efficiently executing government policies aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in milk production.
Organizational Structure
The DDA operates through three main departments:
- Dairy Development Department: Focuses on the promotion of sustainable dairy farming practices, provision of technical assistance, and enhancement of milk production techniques.
