Azym Dossa Easy Coach Founder: The Man Behind Kenya’s Premier Long-Distance Bus Brand
Azym Dossa is the visionary entrepreneur behind Easy Coach, one of Kenya’s largest long-distance bus companies, with over 100 buses serving more than 100 destinations across the country. His story is a powerful testament to late-life entrepreneurship, resilience, and customer-focused innovation.
Early Life and Move to Canada
Azym Dossa lived and worked in Canada for several years, building a stable life for himself and his family. Despite his success abroad, he long harbored dreams of returning to Kenya to start a transport business. At 52, he made the bold move—despite lacking industry experience and facing skepticism from family members.
“When I was 52 and living in Canada, I told my boys I would return to Kenya to start my business. They discouraged me,” Dossa said.
Akamba Buses and Industry Experience
Upon returning to Kenya in the 1980s, Dossa took on a contract role as Chief Financial Officer at the now-defunct Akamba Bus Company. What started as a short-term engagement evolved into a 17-year learning experience, laying the groundwork for what would become his most successful venture.
Launching Easy Coach in 2003

In 2003, Dossa partnered with a few friends to launch Easy Coach, beginning operations with seven buses between Nairobi and Kisumu. The company quickly grew:
- Added 4 more buses within the first year
- Purchased 12 buses annually for 3 years, later doubling to 24 per year
- Expanded to serve over 100 destinations
Innovation and Customer-Centric Growth
Azym Dossa revolutionized Kenya’s public transport by introducing:
- Clean, secure waiting lounges with restrooms
- A strict no picking passengers en route policy for safety and professionalism
- Focus on customer satisfaction over profits
This approach made Easy Coach a trusted and preferred brand, especially for long-distance travelers across Kenya and neighboring countries.
Retirement and Succession
After two decades at the helm, Dossa stepped down in 2024 due to health and age considerations, but remains actively involved as an advisor.
- Zulfiqar Adatia (former Technical Director) was appointed Managing Director
- A search is ongoing for a “young and dynamic CEO” to lead the next phase of growth
With over 900 employees, Dossa expressed full confidence in the team he built, emphasizing succession planning and institutional strength over family inheritance.
“My sons are in Canada—one is a massage therapist, the other a chiropractor. They have their own lives and professions,” he explained.
Legacy and Impact
Azym Dossa’s journey from Canada to Kenya at age 52 to create Easy Coach is an extraordinary example of vision, discipline, and impact-driven entrepreneurship. His success redefined long-distance travel in Kenya and continues to inspire a generation of late-stage entrepreneurs.
