Applying for a road service license in Kenya involves a series of steps facilitated by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Requirements to Apply

  1. Original copy of the vehicle logbook
  2. Original copy of vehicle inspection report
  3. Original copy of the speed governor compliance certificate
  4. Original copy of the vehicle identity certificate
  5. Driver’s valid PSV badge
  6. Successful vehicle inspection report
  7. Owner’s original ID copy

Steps to Apply

  1. Access the NTSA Service Portal: Visit the NTSA service portal at https://serviceportal.ntsa.go.ke/.
  2. Login: Use your e-Citizen credentials to log in.
  3. Driver Testing and Licensing:
    • Click on “Driver Testing and Licensing.”
    • Attach the vehicle by clicking the “Attach Vehicle” option, then enter the vehicle registration or chassis number.
    • Click the “Search” button, confirm the seating capacity, and submit.
  4. List of Vehicles:
    • On the left side of the screen, click “My Vehicle.”
    • You will see a list of your vehicles.
  5. Apply for RSL:
    • Click “Apply RSL.”
    • Fill in all the required fields and click “Next.”
  6. Payment:
    • Make the required payment.
  7. Submit Application:
    • Submit the application for processing.
  8. Approval:
    • Wait for approval from NTSA.
    • You will receive a notification once the license is processed.
  9. Print License:
    • Once approved, print the license online.

Road Service License Charges

Charges depend on the vehicle’s carrying capacity (passenger count):

  • 6-8 passengers: Kshs 2,700
  • 9-14 passengers: Kshs 3,200
  • 15-25 passengers: Kshs 3,750
