Xiaomi Mix Fold 5, Redmi Note 17 Gain Certifications

Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 has surfaced in a new regulatory filing, while the global versions of the Redmi Note 17 and Redmi Note 17 Pro Max have also appeared in certification databases, signaling that Xiaomi is preparing several major smartphone launches.

  • Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 appears in Chinese certification
  • Xiaomi could introduce a new in-house processor
  • Premium camera and battery expected
  • Redmi Note 17 models receive global certification
  • Redmi Note 17 Pro Max may feature a massive battery
  • Redmi Note 17 expected to vary by region
  • Certifications signal launches are approaching

Although the listings do not confirm complete specifications or release dates, certification approvals typically indicate that commercial launches are approaching. Much of the remaining hardware information still comes from industry reports and leaks rather than official announcements.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 appears in Chinese certification

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has reportedly certified a Xiaomi foldable smartphone carrying model number 2608BPX34C, which is widely believed to correspond to the upcoming Xiaomi Mix Fold 5.

The certification itself confirms regulatory approval but does not disclose technical specifications.

However, previous reports suggest Xiaomi is redesigning its next foldable with a wider aspect ratio that more closely resembles conventional smartphones when folded. The approach would place it alongside other recent book-style foldables that prioritize a broader external display.

The handset is also rumored to feature a 7.6-inch internal folding display, although Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the screen size.

Xiaomi could introduce a new in-house processor

One of the most closely watched rumors surrounding the Mix Fold 5 is its expected chipset.

Industry reports suggest the device could debut Xiaomi’s next-generation Xring O3 processor, the successor to the company’s first self-developed Xring O1 platform.

If accurate, the move would further Xiaomi’s strategy of expanding its proprietary silicon portfolio and reducing reliance on third-party mobile chip suppliers for selected flagship devices.

The company has not officially confirmed either the processor or the phone’s launch timeline.

Premium camera and battery expected

Leaked specifications indicate the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 may include a 200-megapixel primary camera, positioning it among the highest-resolution cameras offered in foldable smartphones.

Reports also point to a 6,000mAh battery, which would represent one of the larger batteries currently available in the premium foldable segment.

Additional rumored features include:

  • Android 17
  • HyperOS 4
  • Side-mounted fingerprint scanner

These specifications remain unofficial until Xiaomi announces the device.

Redmi Note 17 models receive global certification

Separately, Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has certified the global versions of the Redmi Note 17 and Redmi Note 17 Pro Max.

The certifications identify the devices by their model numbers but do not reveal hardware specifications.

Nevertheless, previous filings with other regulatory agencies have provided additional clues about the upcoming smartphones.

Redmi Note 17 Pro Max may feature a massive battery

Earlier certifications reportedly suggest the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max could arrive with a 9,210mAh battery.

If accurate, it would become one of the largest batteries ever fitted to a mainstream smartphone.

The device is also rumored to support:

  • 100W wired fast charging
  • IP68 dust and water resistance

Global memory configurations are expected to include:

  • 8GB + 256GB
  • 8GB + 512GB
  • 12GB + 256GB
  • 12GB + 512GB

Xiaomi has not officially confirmed any of these specifications.

Redmi Note 17 expected to vary by region

Reports suggest the global Redmi Note 17 will closely resemble its Chinese counterpart while introducing one notable change.

The international version is expected to feature a 7,700mAh battery, compared with the 8,000mAh battery reportedly planned for China and India.

Regional hardware differences are common in Xiaomi’s smartphone portfolio, often reflecting local certification requirements, pricing strategies and market positioning.

An India launch has been rumored for Aug. 6, although Xiaomi has yet to announce an official release event.

Certifications signal launches are approaching

Regulatory approvals are among the final steps before smartphones reach retail markets.

While certification databases rarely disclose complete specifications, they typically confirm that manufacturers are preparing devices for commercial release.

For Xiaomi, the latest filings indicate progress across both its premium foldable lineup and its high-volume Redmi Note family.

The Mix Fold 5 is expected to compete in the flagship foldable segment with an updated design, in-house silicon and flagship imaging hardware. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 17 series appears set to continue Xiaomi’s strategy of offering large batteries and high-capacity storage options in the mid-range market.

The next milestone will be Xiaomi’s official announcements, which are expected to confirm pricing, availability, complete specifications and regional launch schedules for all three smartphones.

The handset is expected to be offered in global markets in four RAM/storage combos: 8/256GB, 8/512GB, 12/256GB, and 12/512GB. On the other hand, the global Redmi Note 17 is rumored to be identical to its Chinese counterpart, save for boasting a slightly smaller 7,700 mAh battery compared to the Chinese version’s 8,000 mAh cell, which will also reportedly be offered in India. Speaking of India, the Redmi Note 17 is apparently going to be launched there on August 6.
