St. Lawrence University Uganda (SLAU) is a private university in Kampala. Founded in 2006, the institution welcomed its first students in September 2007. It has grown into a recognized center for higher learning, with a student population of over 3,500 and more than 100 academic and administrative staff.
Location
The main campus of St. Lawrence University is located in Mengo, Rubaga Division, in Uganda’s capital city Kampala. The campus sits on 11 acres (4.5 ha) of land near Kabaka’s Lake, close to the Lubiri Palace of the Kabaka of Buganda, and only 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) west of Kampala’s central business district. The coordinates are 0°18′06″N, 32°33′43″E.
History
SLAU was established in 2006, under the vision of providing accessible higher education opportunities to Ugandan students. With approval from the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE), the university opened its doors in 2007, admitting its pioneer intake of undergraduate students.
