Delvin Mudigi (born 1987), popularly known as Savara, is a Kenyan singer, songwriter, producer, and drummer. He is best recognized as a co-founder, vocalist, and producer of Sauti Sol, one of Africa’s most successful Afropop bands. Celebrated for his versatility, Savara is also an actor, DJ, fitness enthusiast, and vegetarian. Known as The Vibe Curator, he has established himself as a defining voice in modern African music.
Early Life and Formation of Sauti Sol
Savara developed a passion for music at an early age. While in high school, he formed a singing group with Bien-Aimé Baraza and Willis Chimano. Their collaboration eventually grew into the internationally renowned band Sauti Sol when guitarist Polycarp Otieno joined.
With Sauti Sol, Savara contributed as a drummer, vocalist, producer, and songwriter. The band’s distinctive blend of Afropop, R&B, and Afro-fusion propelled them to international acclaim, winning awards such as the MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act, multiple AFRIMA Awards, and BET nominations.
Solo Career and Savage Level
During Sauti Sol’s creative chapter known as “Alone-Together” (2021–2023), each band member pursued solo projects while maintaining the group’s brotherhood.
On February 25, 2022, Savara released his debut solo album, Savage Level, a 14-track body of work that showcased his unique artistry. The album explored love, consciousness, anxiety, growth, and resilience, featuring collaborations with Karun (Vibration) and Nyashinski (More Than a Friend).
Savara described Savage Level as “Afro-Confusion”—a layered sonic blend symbolizing freedom and authenticity. Tracks such as “Balance,” “Anxiety,” and “Reggae ya Kinyozi” became fan favorites. The album cover, shot at his childhood home, was symbolic of returning to his roots and celebrating identity.
No Overthinking and Continued Growth
In 2024, Savara released his second album, No Overthinking, further expanding his creative reach. The project cemented his status as a solo powerhouse, balancing Afropop, reggae, and global sounds.
His reputation as a producer and songwriter has grown significantly; with more than 120 production credits and dozens of songwriting collaborations, Savara has been instrumental in shaping Kenya’s contemporary sound.
Artistry and Style
Known for his rhythmic drumming, smooth vocals, and experimental production, Savara’s artistry blends African roots with global influences. His nickname The Vibe Curator reflects his ability to create music that resonates across cultures and moods.
