Samsung Electronics is set to revive its in-house Exynos processors with the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, marking the first time in four years that the company will rely on its own silicon for flagship smartphones. The decision follows impressive internal benchmarks showing competitive performance and efficiency gains for the Exynos 2600.
Exynos Returns After Four Years
Since 2022, Samsung’s Ultra models, beginning with the Galaxy S22 Ultra, have exclusively featured Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips in all markets. This global standardization followed criticism that Exynos-powered Galaxy phones delivered lower performance and weaker battery life than their Snapdragon counterparts.
However, Samsung has continued deploying Exynos processors in its base and Plus models within regions like Europe and Korea, while the U.S. and Asia received Snapdragon variants. The company’s upcoming Galaxy S26 lineup—expected to launch globally in early 2026—will see a partial shift back to Exynos.
According to South Korean analyst @Jukanlosreve, the Exynos 2600 will power the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra in select markets, while Snapdragon versions will remain available elsewhere.
Performance Breakthroughs
Internal test data cited by the analyst indicates a major leap in Exynos performance. The Exynos 2600 GPU reportedly delivers up to 75% higher performance than Apple’s A19 Pro and about 29% faster graphics than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Elite.
The Neural Processing Unit (NPU)—responsible for on-device AI tasks—also shows a 30% edge over Snapdragon’s latest AI engine and even surpasses Apple’s neural hardware. This advancement suggests that Samsung’s next flagship phones will offer enhanced AI-assisted features like smarter photography, advanced real-time translation, and energy-efficient background processing.
Dual-Sourcing Strategy
Samsung is not fully abandoning its collaboration with Qualcomm. Roughly 50% of all Galaxy S26 units are expected to feature the Exynos 2600, primarily in Korea and Europe, while Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Elite chips will continue to power devices sold in the U.S., Japan, and China.
This dual-sourcing approach reflects Samsung’s cautious optimism — balancing its ambition to showcase in-house innovation with the need to maintain consistent global performance standards.
A Reborn Semiconductor Division
The revival of Exynos also highlights significant improvements in Samsung’s semiconductor technology. The company’s 3 nm manufacturing process has reportedly enhanced power efficiency, heat control, and stability—historical weaknesses of earlier Exynos chips.
If these improvements translate to real-world use, the Galaxy S26 lineup could mark the true comeback of Samsung silicon, setting the stage for renewed competition with both Qualcomm and Apple in the high-performance mobile processor market.
