Samsung Galaxy Card has officially launched in the United States, giving Samsung customers a new way to earn rewards while strengthening the company’s consumer ecosystem. Developed in partnership with Barclays US Consumer Bank and Visa, the new credit card combines cash-back incentives with benefits tied to Samsung products and services.
The move positions Samsung more directly against Apple’s financial services offerings, including the Apple Card, as technology companies continue to expand beyond hardware into payments, digital wallets, and consumer finance.
Samsung Galaxy Card launches in the U.S.
Samsung said applications for the Samsung Galaxy Card will open on July 22. Eligible customers can apply either online or through Samsung retail stores across the United States.
The card will be available in two formats. Customers can choose a physical metal card featuring Samsung’s black logo or a virtual version designed for digital use.
To attract new customers, Samsung is offering a welcome bonus worth $200. The incentive is available to eligible cardholders who spend at least $2,000 during the first 90 days after opening their account.
The company said the card is being issued through Barclays US Consumer Bank and operates on the Visa payment network, allowing it to be used anywhere Visa is accepted.
Samsung Galaxy Card rewards focus on the Samsung ecosystem
Samsung has structured the rewards program to encourage spending within its own products and digital services.
Cardholders can earn:
- 5% cash back on eligible Samsung purchases.
- 3% cash back on transactions completed through Samsung Wallet.
- 2% cash back on eligible streaming services.
- 1% cash back on all other qualifying purchases.
The rewards program reflects Samsung’s broader strategy of increasing engagement with its software and services while encouraging customers to remain within the company’s ecosystem.
Samsung Wallet has become an increasingly important part of that strategy by combining payment capabilities with digital credentials and other mobile services. Offering higher cash-back rates for Wallet transactions may encourage wider adoption of the platform.
Additional benefits target loyal Samsung customers
Beyond standard rewards, Samsung is also including incentives tied to its premium membership offerings.
According to the company, Galaxy Card holders will receive a 20% discount on Samsung VIP Advantage. Customers will also earn 5% cash back when purchasing or renewing a Samsung VIP Advantage membership.
These additional benefits expand the value proposition beyond everyday spending by rewarding customers who frequently purchase Samsung products or participate in the company’s premium service programs.
Competition with Apple extends into financial services
The introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Card marks another step in the competition between Samsung and Apple, which has increasingly expanded beyond smartphones and consumer electronics.
Apple entered the credit card market more than seven years ago with the launch of the Apple Card, offering users a rewards-focused payment experience integrated with Apple’s hardware and software ecosystem.
Samsung’s latest move follows a similar approach by combining payment services with incentives linked to its own devices, digital wallet, and membership offerings.
As major technology companies continue investing in financial products, credit cards have become another way to deepen customer relationships and increase engagement across multiple services rather than relying solely on hardware sales.
Why the launch matters
The U.S. credit card market remains highly competitive, with issuers competing through rewards, sign-up bonuses, and ecosystem integration.
For Samsung, introducing a branded credit card provides another touchpoint with customers while supporting adoption of services such as Samsung Wallet and Samsung VIP Advantage. It also creates opportunities to encourage repeat purchases across the company’s product portfolio.
The partnership with Barclays US Consumer Bank allows Samsung to expand into financial services without becoming a bank itself, while Visa provides broad payment acceptance across merchants.
The launch also reflects a broader trend among technology companies seeking to generate recurring engagement through financial products that complement their devices and digital platforms.
What comes next
Applications for the Samsung Galaxy Card begin on July 22, when eligible U.S. customers can apply online or at Samsung retail stores. The success of the new offering will likely depend on consumer adoption, the appeal of its rewards structure, and Samsung’s ability to integrate the card seamlessly with its broader ecosystem as competition in technology-driven financial services continues to intensify.
