Samsung has earned its first TÜV Nord security certification for smart home appliances, marking a milestone as Europe tightens cybersecurity requirements for connected devices.
The certification covers the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam, Bespoke Jet Bot Combo, and Bespoke AI Refrigerators. TÜV Nord, a German certification body, evaluated the products against ETSI EN 303 645 standards, which set benchmarks for IoT security throughout a device’s lifecycle.
Europe’s Rising Cybersecurity Standards
The development comes as the European Union enforces stricter rules through updates to the Radio Equipment Directive and the upcoming Cyber Resilience Act. These regulations will require IoT manufacturers to comply with tougher security standards or face market restrictions.
TÜV Nord’s certification examined multiple aspects of product security, including:
- Data encryption
- User authentication
- Secure software updates
- Personal data protection
- Vulnerability management
Samsung’s appliances passed all requirements, positioning the company ahead of looming European compliance deadlines.
Samsung’s Knox Platform in Appliances
Samsung based its security strategy on its well-established Knox platform, originally developed for smartphones and now integrated into home appliances. The system offers multi-layer protection, including firmware verification on startup and encryption for monitoring footage and user commands from robot cleaners.
“With global focus on smart home security intensifying, Samsung continues to deliver robust protection through our Knox security platform,” said Jeong Seung Moon, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team for Samsung’s Digital Appliances Business. “This certification validates the strength of our security technologies, and we will continue enhancing protection to safeguard customer data.”
The 2025 Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam and refrigerators also feature Knox Matrix and Knox Vault. Knox Matrix allows devices to monitor each other for threats, while Knox Vault stores sensitive data like passwords on dedicated hardware separate from the main system.
Market Outlook
Samsung will showcase the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam at IFA 2025, while the Jet Bot Combo and AI Refrigerators are already available in select global markets. The certification not only strengthens Samsung’s compliance profile but also positions it competitively in a market where consumer trust in IoT security is becoming a decisive factor.
