Safaricom Launches BLive Data Bundle – How It Will Work

On August 20, 2025, Safaricom launched its new time-based BLive Data Bundle, offering customers more flexibility and peace of mind when browsing. Unlike the traditional MB/GB-based plans, BLive is designed to cater to various users, from students and casual browsers to heavy internet consumers, giving them more freedom to surf the web without worrying about running out of data.

  • How Does the BLive Bundle Work?
  • Where and How Can Customers Purchase BLive Bundles?
  • Key Features and Restrictions of BLive Bundles
  • Who Will Benefit the Most from BLive?
  • Why Is This Important for Kenyan Customers?

What is BLive Data Bundle?

The BLive Data Bundle is a new type of data plan that offers customers the ability to browse the internet without the limitations of traditional MB/GB-based bundles. With BLive, you simply purchase a bundle based on your desired browsing time, and once activated, you can use the internet as much as you want within that time frame. The launch follows customer feedback highlighting the need for more value-driven, worry-free browsing experiences.

As Safaricom’s Customer Value Management Lead, Puneet Pagare, explained during the launch, “Customers told us they wanted bundles that allow them to browse without fear of running out of MBs or GBs. With BLive, you just buy the bundle and browse as much as possible within the set time.”

How Does the BLive Bundle Work?

Unlike traditional data plans where customers are charged based on the data consumed (in MB or GB), the BLive Bundle is time-based. This makes it a flexible option for customers who need to stay online for specific durations, whether for an hour, several hours, or even a whole day. The available bundles vary in terms of validity periods, giving customers a range of options to fit their needs:

  • KSh 20 = BLive for 1 Hour
  • KSh 30 = BLive for 1.5 Hours
  • KSh 50 = BLive for 3 Hours
  • KSh 60 = BLive for 2 Hours
  • KSh 75 = BLive for 4.5 Hours
  • KSh 150 = BLive for 6 Hours

These bundles are designed to allow customers to stay connected for specific durations without worrying about consuming too much data.

Where and How Can Customers Purchase BLive Bundles?

The BLive Data Bundle is available to both prepaid and postpaid Safaricom customers. The bundles can be purchased through various platforms:

  • USSD Codes: *544#, *555#, *444#, *200#
  • MySafaricom App
  • Safaricom Website

With these multiple purchasing options, getting the BLive bundle is as easy as a few clicks or taps.

Key Features and Restrictions of BLive Bundles

  • No Data Volume Limits: The biggest advantage of BLive is that it’s not based on data volume. You can browse, stream, and download as much as you want within the validity period without the worry of running out of data.
  • Multiple Purchases Allowed: Customers can buy multiple BLive bundles throughout the day to ensure continuous browsing without interruptions.
  • Validity Doesn’t Extend Existing Bundles: The BLive bundles do not extend the validity of any existing data bundles. Each purchase is separate and does not add to the remaining balance of other plans.
  • No Sharing or Sambaza: The bundles are intended for individual use and cannot be shared with others.
  • Tethering Restrictions: Tethering or hotspot usage is not allowed with BLive bundles. This ensures that the bundle is used for personal browsing only.

Who Will Benefit the Most from BLive?

The BLive Data Bundle is designed to cater to a broad range of customer needs:

  1. Students and Casual Users: For those who need internet for browsing, checking emails, or attending online classes without worrying about data limits.
  2. Heavy Internet Users: Those who want to stream videos, download files, or engage in other data-heavy activities without counting data usage.
  3. Frequent Users on the Go: With shorter validity options like 1 hour or 1.5 hours, people can stay connected while traveling, in meetings, or on the move.

Why Is This Important for Kenyan Customers?

The introduction of BLive represents a major shift in Safaricom’s approach to data plans. It aligns with the growing demand for more flexibility and convenience in internet usage. By eliminating the limitations of MB and GB, Safaricom is offering a customer-centric solution that allows users to browse and connect without the constant concern of running out of data.

Furthermore, with Kenya’s growing digital economy, this shift provides more affordable and efficient internet access for all types of users, whether you are a student in need of internet for a few hours or a professional who needs to stream content seamlessly.

Conclusion:

The BLive Data Bundle is a much-needed innovation that provides Kenyans with more control over their internet usage. Whether you’re a light user, a student, or a heavy downloader, this new system ensures that you can stay connected without worrying about data consumption. As Safaricom continues to innovate and listen to its customers, BLive represents another step toward creating a more dynamic and flexible mobile internet experience for Kenyan consumers.
