Safaricom AI App unveiled at Decode summit
The Safaricom AI App was introduced as part of the company’s broader push into artificial intelligence and integrated digital services. Speaking at the summit, CEO Peter Ndegwa said the company is evolving beyond traditional telecommunications.
“We are no longer just a telco. We are becoming a technology company building the intelligent digital infrastructure that will power Kenya’s future,” Ndegwa said.
The Decode summit brings together developers, industry leaders, and technology partners. It focuses on applying emerging technologies such as AI in real-world systems.
Safaricom AI App simplifies user experience
The Safaricom AI App, branded as My OneApp, is designed to eliminate the need for multiple applications. Instead, users can access telecom and financial services from a single platform.
According to Safaricom Chief Financial Services Officer Esther Waititu, the goal is to simplify access while improving user experience.
“Our role is to bring businesses and consumers together so that we can solve problems and enable a fantastic lifestyle,” Waititu said.

AI-driven personalization and features
The Safaricom AI App uses machine learning to personalize the user interface. Over time, it adapts based on user behavior, including transaction patterns, preferred contacts, and frequently used services.
As a result, commonly used features such as bill payments, lending, and investments appear directly on the home screen. Users can also customize quick actions and automate recurring payments.
“The more you use the app, the more it learns you. It’s not just convergence, it’s personal,” Waititu added.
Integrated financial and lifestyle services
The Safaricom AI App integrates multiple financial services into a single ecosystem. Users can invest through Ziidi, trade shares via CD Trader, and access credit services such as Fuliza.
In addition, the platform supports business tools like Pochi la Biashara and offers insurance products, including device and income protection.
Beyond finance, the app includes entertainment and digital services such as Baze, gaming, and news. It also supports third-party mini-apps, positioning it as a broader digital lifestyle platform.
Security and accessibility enhancements
The Safaricom AI App introduces enhanced security features, including biometric authentication, fraud reporting, and PIN recovery. Users can also access network diagnostics without relying on USSD codes or customer support.
These improvements aim to increase convenience while maintaining security across financial and telecom services.
Rollout and market implications
The Safaricom AI App is currently available in an early access phase on the Google Play Store for Android users. An iOS version is expected to follow.
Safaricom plans to use the pilot phase to gather user feedback before a wider rollout. Analysts say the move could reshape how users interact with mobile services in Kenya.
