Nothing is set to unveil the Nothing Phone (3a) and Nothing Phone (3a) Pro on March 4, and one of the standout features of these devices will be the Essential Key—a dedicated physical button designed for enhanced AI and camera functionality.
How the Essential Key Works
1. AI Integration with Essential Space
The Essential Key is deeply integrated with Essential Space, Nothing’s custom AI-powered hub that serves as a storage center for digital content, including:
- Screenshots
- Voice notes
- Photos
2. Quick Actions with Essential Key
Users can utilize the Essential Key for various functions:
- Press and hold: Capture a screenshot
- Long press: Start recording a voice note
- Double tap: Quickly access Essential Space
3. Enhanced Camera Functionality
Inside the phone’s native Camera app, the Essential Key will serve as a shutter button:

Essential Space: A Work in Progress
Although Essential Space is launching alongside the Nothing Phone (3a) and 3a Pro, it is still being refined. A fully developed version is expected to debut with the Nothing Phone (3) in the near future.
