Mulumba Ndaye the first African to get a red card at the world cup

Mulumba Ndaye

Mulumba Ndaye the first African to get a red card at the world cup after the referee accused him of kicking his bottom in 1974. It was a case of mistaken identity as the player who had kicked the referee was Mulumba’s teammate called Mwepu Ilunga.

In another case of mistaken identity, a minute of silence was observed for Mulumba Ndaye at the 1998 African Cup of Nations after reports emerged that he was among those killed in an Angolan diamond mine. It later emerged that Mulumba had never even set foot in Angola.
