Metropolitan International University Uganda (MIU) is a secular private university accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE). Established in 2017, the institution has quickly grown to become one of the recognized private universities in Uganda, ranked 33rd nationally and the leading university in Kisoro.
Location
MIU’s main campus is located in Kisoro District, in the southwestern region of Uganda. The university also maintains a second urban campus in Kampala, at Namungoona on Plot 281, Nakibinge Road. This dual presence allows it to serve both rural and urban student populations.
The Kisoro campus hosts the university’s major graduation ceremonies. On 25 February 2022, MIU held its fourth graduation ceremony, awarding 1,323 graduates diplomas, certificates, and degrees. The ceremony was graced by Chancellor Dr. Philemon Mateke, Vice Chancellor Dr. Julius Arinaitwe, and guest of honor Rebecca Kadaga, Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs.
Governance and Leadership
MIU is governed through a Board of Trustees, University Senate, and a University Council. The current Chancellor is Dr. Philemon Mateke, while the Vice Chancellor is Dr. Julius Arinaitwe.

Growth and Developments
MIU held its inaugural graduation on 21 February 2019 in Kisoro Municipality. Since then, the university has expanded its academic programs, attracted students from across the country, and become a notable institution in southwestern Uganda.
With its dual-campus structure in Kisoro and Kampala, MIU is positioning itself as a regional hub for education, offering accessible higher learning opportunities in both rural and urban contexts.
