Kyotera District Uganda is one of the youngest districts in the country, created in 2015 by an Act of Parliament and made operational on 1 July 2017. Formerly part of Rakai District, Kyotera was carved out to bring services closer to the people and improve public administration.
While Kyotera Town is the district’s commercial hub and largest urban center, the district headquarters are based in Kasaali, a suburb of Kyotera. The area is strategically located near the Ugandan–Tanzanian border, giving it both economic and cultural importance.
Location and Geography
Kyotera District is in the Central Region of Uganda, bordered by:
- Rakai District to the west
- Lwengo District to the north
- Masaka District to the northeast
- Kalangala District (via Lake Victoria) to the east
- Missenyi District (Tanzania) to the south
The headquarters in Kasaali are about 47 km southwest of Masaka and approximately 182 km from Kampala, Uganda’s capital.
