Kipsigis Girls High School, a prestigious national girls’ secondary school located in Kericho County, was established in 1955 as the African Girls Boarding School with a single stream of classes for grades 5-8. Initially, the school had 140 pupils.
In 1965, two years after Kenya’s independence, the institution was upgraded to a secondary school, starting with 120 students. The school’s development continued, and in 1970, it began offering ‘A’ level classes, which focused on the Arts. The first group of students sat for their East African Certificate of Education (E.A.C.E.) exams in 1971. The school was further expanded to accommodate two streams.
When the 8-4-4 education system was introduced in 1986, the ‘A’ level system was phased out, and Kipsigis Girls continued to admit students based on their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results. In 2023, the KPSEA (Kenya Primary School Education Assessment) replaced the KCPE exams under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) framework.
The school has grown significantly since its establishment, offering quality education to girls across Kenya.
