Kenya has formally presented the necessary documents to officially endorse Raila Odinga, leader of Azimio, as its candidate for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC).
The submission took place on Monday at the AUC headquarters in Addis Ababa, as confirmed by Korir Sing’oei, Principal Secretary for the State Department of Foreign Affairs. The documentation was delivered to the Dean of the AU Eastern Region, Dharmraj Busgeeth, Ambassador of Mauritius.
Korir Sing’oei emphasized, “On behalf of the Kenyan government and in accordance with the African Union Commission’s Statutes and Rules, we have today officially submitted the documentation for Kenya’s nominee, H.E. Raila Amolo Odinga, for the AUC Chairmanship to the Dean of the Eastern Region, H.E. Dharmraj Busgeeth, Ambassador of Mauritius.”
The ODM party has expressed its confidence in Raila Odinga as a suitable candidate, stating, “Submission complete. In God we trust.”
The State Department highlighted that Raila Odinga’s candidacy is supported by his extensive Pan-Africanist credentials, which include his role as the High Representative of the AUC Chairperson on Infrastructure and election observation across Africa.
Korir remarked, “Kenya has proposed the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga for the AUC Chairmanship due to his Pan-Africanist background, extensive networks across the continent, and proven leadership capabilities. His candidacy reflects his suitability and competence to lead Africa’s premier continental organization.”
If elected, Odinga’s agenda will address critical issues such as African integration, infrastructure development, economic transformation, boosting intra-African trade, and advancing the continent’s financial autonomy.
The government also underscored its commitment to the AU, noting Kenya’s exemplary role in supporting African solutions and initiatives, including financial contributions and leadership in peace, security, and conflict resolution across the continent.
Korir added, “Kenya, as a member in good standing of the AU, consistently fulfills its obligations and leads in providing African solutions to African challenges through support and mediation efforts.”
