The Intel Raptor Lake network appliance from CWWK introduces powerful connectivity options for users seeking high-speed networking in a compact mini PC form factor. Designed as a soft router or firewall appliance, it delivers enterprise-grade versatility while maintaining affordability.
CWWK offers two key configurations. The first features an Intel U300E processor paired with eight 2.5 Gb Ethernet ports, while the second provides four 2.5 GbE ports and two 10 Gb SFP cages, enabling mixed-speed networking setups. At launch, barebones units are priced at around $424 and $443, respectively.
Despite its modest 15W TDP, the U300E offers more than typical embedded processors. It supports dual-channel DDR4-3200 memory (up to 96GB), Thunderbolt, and up to 20 PCIe lanes, a leap over Alder Lake-N and Twin Lake counterparts. Its single P-core and four E-cores allow frequencies up to 4.3 GHz, sufficient for routing, firewall management, and lightweight virtualization.
Expansion and Storage
The Intel Raptor Lake network appliance supports modern storage and expansion standards. It includes:
- 1 × M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 slot for SSDs
- 2 × SATA connectors for HDDs or SSDs
- 1 × M.2 E-Key for WiFi/Bluetooth expansion
- 1 × PCIe x8 slot (limited to 4-lane signal)
- 2 × SODIMM slots for RAM
These options provide flexibility for building custom firewall, router, or virtualization servers.
Connectivity and I/O
Alongside networking, the appliance integrates a versatile set of ports:
- 1 × HDMI 2.0
- 1 × DisplayPort 1.4
- 1 × USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10 Gbps)
- 1 × USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A (5 Gbps)
- 2 × USB 2.0 Type-A (480 Mbps)
- 1 × microSD card reader
- 1 × 3.5mm audio jack
- 1 × DC power input (12V)
The chassis measures 145.4 × 131.7 × 60 mm and is built from aluminum with copper heatsink cooling, aided by an active fan for stable thermal performance.
Future Variants
According to CWWK, future iterations of the Intel Raptor Lake network appliance may adopt more powerful CPUs, including Core i3-1315U, i5-1335U, and i7-1355U. These would provide higher CPU and GPU performance, opening the door for heavier workloads beyond network routing.
Compact, efficient, and designed for advanced connectivity, this Intel Raptor Lake network appliance is ideal for enthusiasts, IT professionals, and small enterprises needing secure, high-speed networking solutions in a small form factor.
