Huawei Reportedly Sells 400,000 Tri-Fold Mate XT Units

Huawei Mate XT Tri-Fold Sales 2025: Over 400,000 Units Reportedly Sold

The Huawei Mate XT, the world’s first tri-fold foldable smartphone, has allegedly crossed the 400,000 unit sales mark, according to new reports emerging from China. Despite being ultra-premium and lacking Google services, the futuristic device has struck a chord with early adopters.

📱 A Tri-Fold Pioneer in an Expensive Class

Launched in China in September 2024, the Mate XT was met with curiosity and skepticism, mostly due to:

  • Its very high price
  • Its experimental tri-fold design
  • The absence of Google Mobile Services (GMS)

However, reaching 400,000 sales for a first-generation, ultra-expensive foldable puts Huawei in a unique position within the foldables market.

While the number may not rival traditional smartphone sales, it’s a strong showing for such a niche, premium device—especially one exploring a new form factor.

🌍 Global Launch Faces Bigger Hurdles

The Mate XT expanded globally in February 2025, but without GMS, its adoption outside of China remains limited. In addition to software limitations, import tariffs and taxes have driven prices even higher for international consumers.

Despite this, Huawei’s achievement signals strong domestic demand and possibly growing confidence in China’s alternative app ecosystem.

🔎 What Makes the Mate XT Special?

Key features of the Mate XT include:

  • Tri-fold display, allowing for multiple form factors
  • Cutting-edge hinge technology
  • Flagship-tier hardware specs
  • A unique design experience that pushes the boundaries of current foldable tech

🔮 What Does This Mean for the Foldable Market?
