If your child is born in Timor-Leste, or you are a citizen residing abroad, you must officially register the birth with the local Civil Registry to obtain a birth certificate. This legal document is essential for identification, travel, education, and government services. Here’s a complete guide on how to register a birth in Timor-Leste.

Step 1: Go to the Local Civil Registry Office

Birth registration must be done in person at:

  • The Civil Registry Office where the birth occurred, or
  • The place of habitual residence of the child or declarant

Visit the registry office during business hours and notify the officer of your intent to register a birth.

You will be asked to make a verbal declaration providing the child’s birth details, including:

  • Full name of the child
  • Date and place of birth
