Procedure to Apply for a Building Demolition Permit

  1. Prepare Required Documents: Gather all the necessary documents listed below before proceeding with your application:
    • Application letter addressed to the Director of Physical Planning.
    • Copy of approved drawings showing the building or structure to be demolished.
    • Proof of land ownership (e.g., land title).
    • Proof of payment of the inspection fee.
    • Evidence of at least three years of relevant experience related to demolition work.
    • Completed application form obtained from the municipal office.
  2. Visit the Municipality Office: Contact or visit the city/town hall of the municipal office where the land is located. For Kampala, this would be the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) office located at City Hall, Plot 1-3, Apollo Kaggwa Road, Kampala.
  3. Submit Application:
    • Fill out the application form completely and accurately.
    • Attach all required documents to the application form.
    • Submit the completed application form and documents to the Physical Planning office at the municipal office.
  4. Verification and Display of Application:
    • Within 15 days of submitting your application, the Physical Planner will verify the application and documents.
    • The details of your application (such as applicant’s name, address, and nature of demolition) will be displayed at the town/city hall for public notice.
  5. Review Process:
    • The application will be reviewed by the Review Board Building Committee.
    • The Physical Planner will discuss the application with the Review Board Building Committee to make a decision.
  6. Notification of Decision:
    • The Physical Planner will notify you of the final decision regarding your demolition permit application.
    • This notification will include any conditions or requirements you must meet for approval.
  7. Implementation of Technical Measures:
    • If approved, you must implement the technical measures for stability and safety as specified in your application.
    • Ensure that these measures adhere to engineering standards to maintain neighborhood safety during the demolition process.

Important Information

  • Fees: The demolition permit fee is 50,000 Ugandan Shillings. Additionally, there’s an inspection fee of 50,000 Ugandan Shillings plus VAT.
  • Validity: The demolition permit is valid for a specified period, depending on the terms provided upon approval.
  • Supervision Requirement: During demolition work, an approved supervisor must be present at the work site at all times.
