This agreement covers the maintenance of Ethiopian Airlines’ fleet of 24 Airbus A350 aircraft, including both the A350-900 and A350-1000 variants. The FHS contract provides Ethiopian Airlines with comprehensive support for its A350 fleet, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum operational efficiency. Key features of the agreement include:

  1. On-Site Stock Availability:
    • Airbus will maintain a stock of critical parts in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian Airlines’ hub, to ensure quick access to necessary components.
  2. Global Material Pools:
    • Ethiopian Airlines will have access to Airbus’ global material pools, enabling the airline to source parts and materials efficiently.
  3. Repair and Engineering Support:
    • The agreement includes repair services and engineering support for a wide range of critical rotable parts, ensuring the fleet remains in optimal condition.
  4. Enhanced Operational Reliability:
    • By leveraging Airbus’ expertise and resources, Ethiopian Airlines aims to reduce maintenance-related delays and improve overall fleet reliability.

Statements from Leadership

Retta Melaku, Chief Operating Officer of Ethiopian Airlines, emphasized the importance of the partnership:
“As the first African operator of the A350 Family, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of performance and reliability across our fleet. Partnering long-term with Airbus through this FHS agreement will help us optimize operations, reduce maintenance-related delays, and ensure our passengers continue to experience the best in safety, comfort, and service.”

Instagram Threads Rolls Out Direct Messaging in Major Feature Update Naftary Thitu by Naftary Thitu July 4, 2025 in News Reading Time: 2 mins read 261 0 Instagram threads Instagram Threads is stepping up its game in the social media arena. In its latest update, Meta’s text-first platform has officially launched direct messaging (DM) support for all users globally. The rollout now allows Threads users aged 18 and over on Android, iOS, and the web to send private messages to each other. However, in its current form, DMs are limited to one-on-one conversations and can only be exchanged between mutual followers or people you follow on Instagram who follow you back. To start a DM, simply tap the envelope icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the Threads app. This opens your inbox, where you can tap the pencil icon in the top-right corner to begin composing a message. While the platform promises that DMs are safeguarded by Meta’s existing privacy and safety infrastructure, end-to-end encryption is not yet supported. Threads spokesperson Alec Booker confirmed this detail to The Verge, noting that Meta will continue developing the feature based on user feedback. What’s Coming Next? Meta has bigger plans beyond just launching basic direct messages on Threads. In upcoming updates, users will gain more control over who can send them messages, including the option to receive DMs from people outside their follower list. Threads will also introduce a dedicated message request folder, much like the one on X (formerly Twitter), allowing users to review incoming messages from non-followers. Additionally, support for group chats and inbox filters is on the horizon, aiming to enhance organization and streamline conversations within the app. Alongside DMs, Threads introduced a new content discovery tool called “Highlighter.” This feature surfaces standout posts and unique perspectives to encourage deeper conversations. Currently, it appears in discovery areas like the “For You” feed and will expand to more sections of the app in the future. Since its launch in 2023, Threads has been tied closely to Instagram, relying on it for core functionalities like messaging. But with native DMs and new discovery tools like Highlighter, Threads is steadily evolving into a more autonomous and engaging platform, aiming to compete directly with platforms like X and Bluesky.
