A SIM lock, also known as a network lock or carrier lock, is a software restriction built into a mobile device by the manufacturer or service provider to ensure that the device can only be used with a specific carrier’s SIM card. This lock prevents users from switching to another network without authorization, often tying the device to a contract or payment plan. Once contractual obligations are met, carriers may provide an unlock code or service to remove the SIM lock. Unlocking a device allows it to be used with SIM cards from other networks, offering more flexibility for travel or switching providers.
