Planning a road trip from Qatar to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) necessitates a journey through Saudi Arabia due to the absence of a direct border between Qatar and the UAE. This guide details the necessary documentation, procedures, and tips to ensure a smooth transit through these countries.

  • Saudi Arabia Visa: Qatari citizens are exempt, but others can apply online or at the Tasheer visa centre in Ezdan Mall, Gharaffa.
    • E-visa cost: Around QR 290.59, excluding medical insurance.
    • Tasheer visa cost: Approximately QR 522, including various fees.
  • UAE Visa: GCC residents can apply online for a visitor entry visa.
    • Cost: Around QR 213.36, including VAT.

  • Medical Insurance: Mandatory for entering Saudi Arabia, with costs starting from QR 36.5.

  1. Exiting Qatar: Start at the Abu Samra border, where you’ll undergo document verification and exit procedures.
  2. Entering Saudi Arabia: After crossing into Saudi Arabia, proceed to the immigration booth for document checks and biometrics.
  3. Crossing into the UAE: After Saudi, head towards Al Batha/Ghuwaifat Port, complete the customs and passport controls, and enter the UAE territory.

Return Journey

  • Exiting the UAE: Pay an exit fee of QR 29.68 at the booth, pass through passport control and customs, and proceed to Saudi Arabia and then to Qatar.
  • Road Options: The Al Uqayr-Salwa coastal road offers a quick return route to Qatar.

Travel Tips

  • Journey Duration: Expect an 8 to 10-hour drive, varying with border procedures.
  • Speed Limits: Observe local speed limits, with 160 km/h from Al Ghuwaifat Port to Abu Dhabi and 140 km/h onwards to Dubai.
  • Fuel and Amenities: Petrol stations and facilities are available near borders and along the route.
