  1. Preparation and Documentation

    • Credit and Lending Policies: Detail the SACCO’s policies regarding credit facilities, loan products, interest rates, and risk management strategies.
    • Memorandum and Articles of Association: Submit certified copies of the SACCO’s Memorandum and Articles of Association, highlighting core capital requirements (minimum UGshs 5 million).
    • Proof of Registration: Include a certified copy of the certificate of registration issued under the Cooperative Societies Act.
    • Tax Compliance: Provide a certified copy of the tax Personal Identification Number (PIN) certificate.
    • Location Verification: Verify the SACCO’s registered place of business, including details of head office, branches, agencies, and outlets.
    • Character Verification: Obtain certificates of good conduct for all directors and the company secretary.
  2. Application Submission
    • Fill out the prescribed SACCO licence application form provided by UMRA.
    • Attach all required documents mentioned above to the completed application form.
    • Pay a non-refundable application fee of UGshs 50,000 to UMRA.
  3. Submission and Processing
    • Submit the duly filled application form along with the pay slip to the Finance Officer in charge of SACCO Registration at UMRA.
    • Ensure all required information and documentation are accurately provided to avoid delays in processing.
  4. Review and Approval
    • UMRA will review the application within a maximum period of 21 days from the date of submission, provided all requirements are met.
    • Upon successful review and approval, UMRA will issue a SACCO licence certificate.
  5. Licence Renewal
    • A SACCO licence is valid for one year and expires on 31 December of each year.
    • Renew the licence annually by paying the prescribed renewal fee of UGshs 2,000,000 to UMRA.
