The 6 generation Apple iPad Pro 12.9 has a slim aluminum unibody and a brilliant mini-LED display. The latter is almost unchanged compared to the predecessor and is said to reach a peak brightness of up to 1,600 cd/m². In our tests, our calibration turns out to be a little more color accurate, but measurable differences can be seen in almost all other reviews. The tablet also now recognizes when an Apple Pencil (Gen. 2) is hovering above the screen.
The heart of the Apple tablet is the M2 processor, which is also used in the MacBook Pro, and can draw on up to 16 GB of working memory. Storage options range from 128 to 2,048 GB, with ProRes video limitations on the smallest model.
The Type-C interface is equipped with USB 4 and Thunderbolt 3, which not only enable high data transfer rates, but also the connection of external displays. Apple also adds Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, but that’s pretty much it.
This certainly doesn’t justify the high price premium compared to the predecessor. However, this is primarily due to the unfavorable exchange rate. So if you want to save a lot of money without making major compromises, simply go for last year’s model.
Otherwise the current iPad Pro 12.9 can be ordered directly from Apple in all color and storage variants. Other sellers, especially Amazon, offer the tablet at cheaper prices.
