With PayPal, customers can top up and withdraw funds in US-Dollars (USD) only; customer can manage their M-PESA account in Kenya shillings only.
If a customer has multiple currencies in the PayPal account, they will need to convert the funds into US-Dollars if they wish to withdraw the PayPal balance to the M-PESA account. To convert the funds, go to the “Manage Currencies” section in the PayPal account.
This service is only offered to users in Kenya with registered M-PESA accounts, Google (PayPal) accounts, and Android devices.

How to Top Up a Paypal Account From Mpesa
The top-up service to PayPal allows you to top up funds from your qualifying M-PESA account to your linked PayPal account to shop online or make payments with PayPal.
- Log on to the M-PESA PayPal web page (link) and select Top Up funds.
- Enter the amount to top up in USD and click ‘calculate’ to get the equal converted amount in Kenya Shillings, to be transferred from your M-PESA account. (Exchange rate used will be displayed on the same page)
- Go to your M-PESA menu and Select ‘Lipa na M-PESA’ and then the ‘Pay Bill’ option.
- Enter Business no. 800088.
- Enter your phone number as Account No.
- Enter the Amount in Kenya Shillings.
- Enter your M-PESA PIN and Send
