African Rural University (ARU) is a private university in Uganda dedicated exclusively to educating women in sustainable agriculture and rural development. Established in 2006 and accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) in 2011, it stands as the first women-focused university in Africa with a strong emphasis on rural transformation and community development.

The university’s main campus is located in Kagadi town, Kagadi District, within the Bunyoro sub-region of Western Uganda. ARU lies approximately 265 kilometers (165 miles) west of Kampala, Uganda’s capital.

Admissions are limited to thirty female students per intake, ensuring quality mentorship and strong field-based learning.
