2026 Jeep Recon EV Debuts With Massive Power and Trail Tech

Jeep has officially unveiled its newest all-electric off-road SUV, showcasing a major leap in performance and design. The 2026 Jeep Recon marks the brand’s second battery-powered model in the US and the first to earn the coveted Trail Rated badge. With 650 horsepower, advanced terrain systems, and a rugged design, the vehicle targets buyers who want real outdoor capability in a fully electric package. Jeep’s latest launch follows the Wagoneer S, which has struggled in the market, raising questions about whether a tougher, trail-ready EV can win more buyers.

The Recon arrives in the Moab trim, launching with a powerful dual-motor setup. This system produces 650 HP and 841 Nm of torque, delivering performance that rivals sports cars. The SUV uses a 100 kWh battery providing an estimated 402 km of range. That number is lower than the Wagoneer S’s 473 km estimate, but the trade-off lies in its off-road focus. The Recon is the only Jeep EV to secure the Trail Rated badge, confirming that it meets the company’s toughest off-road standards.

To deliver true trail capability, the SUV includes 33-inch tires, selectable locking differentials, and Selec-Terrain modes, with a special Rock mode exclusive to the Moab trim. A 15:1 rear final drive ratio creates massive torque at low speeds, helping the vehicle handle mud, rocks, and steep climbs. Steel skid plates protect the battery pack, and the suspension is reinforced with strong CV joints and half shafts built for high-torque electric output.

The suspension setup is fully independent, using short-long arms in the front and an integral link at the rear. This gives the Recon better comfort and stability than traditional solid-axle models like the Wrangler. With 231 mm of ground clearance, it sits higher than most SUVs but still below the Wrangler’s more extreme configurations. Jeep focused on balancing trail capability with everyday road manners, especially as EV buyers expect smoother handling.

Design-wise, the new Recon keeps Jeep’s signature boxy shape with modern updates. It features an upright grille, clean body lines, and optional Sky One-Touch power roofing. The model also supports removable doors, windows, and swing-gate glass, giving enthusiasts a more open-air driving experience. Jeep made sure that all removable parts come off without special tools, a nod to the needs of adventure-oriented drivers.

Inside, the cabin combines durability with advanced tech. A large 26-inch digital display spans the dashboard, consisting of a 12.3-inch cluster and a 14.5-inch touchscreen using Uconnect 5. The interface supports trail mapping, pitch and roll data, and live camera feeds. This marks the largest integrated screen design in any Jeep vehicle. The mix of rugged materials and modern connectivity positions the Recon as a next-generation off-road EV.

Production of the 2026 Jeep Recon is scheduled to begin early next year at the Toluca Assembly Plant. The Moab trim launches in Europe at approximately €55,500, with more affordable versions expected later. With the electric SUV market facing uncertainty, Jeep will be watching closely to see if the Recon can avoid the sales challenges faced by the Wagoneer S. Regardless of market conditions, Jeep’s latest model signals a strong commitment to combining electric power with traditional off-road capability.
