The luxury SUV market has a new contender with the unveiling of the Voyah Taishan 9L. Positioned as Dongfeng’s flagship plug-in hybrid SUV, the Taishan 9L brings a blend of luxury, range, and advanced technology designed to rival models like the Zeekr 9X, Denza N9, and NIO ES8. With its massive 65kWh battery, refined styling, and Huawei’s ADS 4 autonomous driving suite, the SUV represents Voyah’s most ambitious leap yet in the premium market.
Design and Exterior Features
Measuring 5,230mm in length with a 3,120mm wheelbase, the Voyah Taishan 9L offers commanding road presence. Its chrome-heavy grille design, inspired by the Voyah Dreamer, is paired with a full-width LED light bar and adaptive matrix headlights. Large 21- and 22-inch alloys sit within pronounced wheel arches, while luxury details such as shooting star lighting in door handles, electric-opening doors with proximity sensors, and full-length puddle lights reinforce its premium status.
The SUV also features air suspension for height adjustment and rear-wheel steering with a 5-degree angle, improving maneuverability despite its size. Although rear images remain limited, the 9L is expected to carry signature Voyah light bar detailing and turquoise-lit branding when ADAS is engaged.
Powertrain and Battery Performance
At the heart of the Voyah Taishan 9L is an advanced plug-in hybrid system. A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine works alongside dual electric motors rated at 150kW (front) and 230kW (rear), ensuring full-time all-wheel drive. Unlike range-extended EVs, the hybrid setup allows the engine to directly power the wheels, seamlessly switching between electric and hybrid drive modes.
The substantial 65kWh battery provides up to 305km of EV range on the WLTC cycle, while overall range reaches 1,400km on the CLTC cycle. With its 800-volt architecture and 5C fast charging, the Taishan 9L can recharge from 10–80% in about 15 minutes. Hybrid mode efficiency is rated between 6.6–6.9 litres per 100km.
Technology and Interior Innovation
Voyah has equipped the Taishan 9L with Huawei’s ADS 4 autonomous driving system, supported by four lidar sensors for enhanced safety and precision. The SUV also integrates Huawei HarmonyOS 5, ensuring seamless connectivity, smart cabin functions, and over-the-air updates.
Inside, passengers can expect advanced luxury appointments such as electrically extending side steps, customizable ambient lighting, and three-row seating optimized for comfort. Combined with its cutting-edge drivetrain, the Taishan 9L aims to deliver a premium SUV experience both in performance and refinement.
Market Positioning
Expected pricing begins around RMB 400,000 (£41,200 / $56,000), putting the Voyah Taishan 9L firmly in the premium SUV segment. Its combination of long electric range, fast charging, luxury amenities, and intelligent driving systems places it in direct competition with the Zeekr 9X, Denza N9, IM LS9, and NIO ES8.
With its launch set for early 2025, Voyah is not only strengthening its domestic market presence but also positioning the Taishan 9L for potential international expansion.
