In a sorrowful incident late Sunday night, the Kenya Air Force is mourning the loss of one of their officers, Paytone Mitch Opiyo, who died in a devastating road accident along the Bondo-Usenge road near Nyamonye area. The accident also claimed the life of a motorcyclist, Richard Omondi, following a head-on collision between two motorcycles.
Siaya County Police Commander, Cleti Kimaiyo, reported that Officer Opiyo was traveling from Usenge towards Bondo with his brother, Felix Opiyo, when their motorcycle collided with another motorcycle driven by Richard Omondi. The impact was severe and both drivers died at the scene.
Felix Opiyo and Walter Aloo, a passenger on the other motorcycle, sustained serious injuries with multiple leg fractures. They were quickly transported to Siaya County Referral Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment for their injuries, described as serious.
Authorities responded promptly to the accident, with officers from the Bondo traffic base securing the scene and coordinating the transfer of the bodies to Bondo Sub-County Hospital’s mortuary, where autopsies will be conducted. The damaged motorcycles were taken to Nyamonye police post for further inspection as part of the ongoing investigation into the causes of this tragic accident.
Commander Kimaiyo confirmed the details of the accident and extended his sympathies to the families and colleagues of the deceased. The local community and the Kenya Air Force are left to mourn the untimely loss of their members, as efforts continue to prevent future tragedies on the road.
