Responsibilities of the NEB

Composition of the NEB

The National Education Board is composed of the following members:

  • Eight Members: Serve three-year terms, with eligibility for reappointment for another term.

Appointment Process

  1. Selection Panel:
    • When a vacancy arises, the Cabinet Secretary for Education appoints a Selection Panel to recommend candidates for the board.
  2. Cabinet Secretary’s Role:
    • The Cabinet Secretary appoints the Chairperson and members of the NEB in accordance with the Basic Education Act.

The Basic Education Act serves as the legislative foundation for the National Education Board. Section 5 of the Act defines the NEB’s functions and its coordination with the County Education Boards.

The County Education Boards complement the NEB by:
