The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) is a semi-autonomous agency under Kenya’s Ministry of Interior & Coordination of National Government. NACADA partners with various institutions to promote a society free from alcohol and drug abuse.
Key Functions of NACADA
- Coordinate Public Participation
NACADA facilitates public involvement in the control of alcohol and drug abuse across Kenya. - Public Education
The authority conducts public education on alcohol and drug abuse, both independently and with other institutions. - Inter-Agency Collaboration
NACADA promotes inter-agency collaboration for comprehensive alcohol and drug demand reduction efforts. - Trend Monitoring and Surveillance
It monitors and analyzes national and international trends in the production, sale, and consumption of alcohol and drugs. - Rehabilitation Support
NACADA, alongside other agencies, facilitates the development and operation of rehabilitation facilities and programs. - Licensing and Regulation
It licenses and regulates rehabilitation centers for individuals with substance use disorders. - Policy Formulation and Implementation
NACADA coordinates with other agencies to formulate, enforce, and evaluate policies and laws on alcohol and drug abuse control. - Research and Data Repository
NACADA promotes research, gathers data on alcohol and drug abuse, and serves as the repository of these findings. - Bi-Annual Reporting
The authority prepares and submits a bi-annual report on the status of alcohol and drug abuse control to Parliament. - County Government Support
NACADA assists county governments in developing and implementing policies and action plans on drug abuse control. - Additional Duties
It performs other roles assigned by the Cabinet Secretary to fulfill the objectives of the NACADA Act.
