Spotify and YouTube are set to receive redesigned interfaces on Android Auto, according to an APK teardown by Android Authority. The update reflects Google’s push to bring a more consistent and modern look to Android Auto apps.
At Google I/O 2025, the company unveiled new media app templates within the Android for Cars App Library. These templates allow developers to create uniform user experiences across apps. For instance, the Media Playback template enables a clean Now Playing view with customizable controls.
Screenshots from closed testing channels show redesigned layouts for both Spotify and YouTube. The updated UI includes a revamped seek bar styled with Material 3 Expressive design language and better adaptation to varying car screen DPIs, ensuring smoother visuals across different dashboard systems.
Currently, the templates remain in beta testing, meaning the redesigned apps are not yet available to the general public. Developers can only publish these builds to closed testing channels on the Google Play Store.
While the early previews showcase promising improvements, final versions may differ when they officially roll out. For now, Spotify and YouTube users on Android Auto will need to wait until Google and the developers complete testing.
The redesign signals Google’s continued effort to modernize Android Auto apps, improving usability, consistency, and safety while driving.
