Things You Should Know

  • The easiest way to share a Kindle book is by using Amazon Household, an Amazon Prime feature.
  • Setting up Amazon Household allows household members to share Kindle books in the Family Library.
  • Another way to share books is through Kindle’s “Loan this title” feature, though it has been discontinued for many users.

Method 1: Setting Up a Family Library

Step 1: Create an Amazon Household

  1. Create an Amazon Household to make a Kindle Family Library. An Amazon Household can include up to 2 adults with their own Amazon accounts and 4 teens and 4 child profiles created as part of an adult’s account.
    • Go to Amazon Household.
    • Select Add Adult to create a Household with another adult.
    • Select Add a Teen to create a Household with a teen.
    • Select Add a Child to create a Household with a child.
    • After setting up your Household, review your content-sharing settings with Family Library and ensure digital book content is selected.

Step 2: Manage Accounts and Devices

  1. Visit the “Manage Accounts and Devices” page and select Books.
    • Go to Manage Your Content and Devices.
    • Select the Content tab, then click Books.

Step 3: Select the Content to Share

  1. Select the content you want to share.
    • Click the checkbox next to the book(s) you want to share.
    • Click Add to Library to place the item(s) in your Family Library. If you don’t see “Add to Library,” select the Show Family Library tab.

Step 4: Add Content to a Profile

  1. Pick a profile to add the content to.
    • Choose the profile within your Family Library to add the book(s) to.
    • Select OK to finish the transfer.

Method 2: Lending a Book

Step 1: Manage Your Content and Devices

  1. Go to the “Manage Your Content and Devices” page.
    • Visit Manage Your Content and Devices to find the page.
    • Click the Content tab to view the books on your Kindle.

Step 2: Select a Book to Lend

  1. Select a book.
    • Click on the section titled Books.
    • Click the checkbox next to the book you want to share.
    • Select Loan this title if the option appears. If “Loan this title” doesn’t appear, the selected book cannot be loaned due to publisher restrictions.

Step 3: Enter Recipient’s Information

  1. Enter your friend or family member’s email address.
    • After clicking “Loan this title,” a new page will appear.
    • Enter the email address and name of the person you want to loan the book to.
    • Optionally, leave a personal message.
    • Click Send.

Step 4: Notify the Recipient

  1. Tell the recipient to look for an email.
    • The recipient will have 7 days to accept the loaned book.
    • They will have 14 days from acceptance to read it.
    • After 14 days, the book will be returned to your library.
    • Note that you will not have access to the book on any device during the loan period.

Tips

  • Use Amazon Household for Easy Sharing: Amazon Household is the most straightforward method for sharing Kindle books with family members.
  • Check Loan Availability: Not all Kindle books can be loaned, as this depends on the publisher’s permissions.
  • Manage Family Profiles: Keep track of who has access to which books by managing profiles within your Family Library.

By following these methods, you can easily share your Kindle books with family and friends, enhancing your reading experience and allowing others to enjoy your favorite books.
