The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) is responsible for reviewing and setting the salaries and benefits for Members of Parliament (MPs), as mandated by Article 230 (4) (a) of the Constitution of Kenya.
The Third Remuneration and Benefits Review Cycle (2021/2022 to 2024/2025) determines the current salaries and benefits for MPs in Kenya.
1. Salary of a Member of Parliament (MP)
MP salaries vary based on their role in Parliament:
- Leader of the Majority Party
- Leader of the Minority Party
- Regular Member of the National Assembly or Senate
The SRC has frozen salary increases for state officers in the 2024/2025 financial year, meaning the 2023/2024 salaries remain in effect.
Position | Gross Monthly Salary (KES) (2023/2024 – 2024/2025) | Basic Salary (KES) | House Allowance (KES) | Salary Market Adjustment (KES) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Leader of the Majority/Minority | 784,768 – 800,019 | 470,861 – 480,011 | 150,000 | 163,907 |
