The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) determines the salary and benefits of the President of Kenya, as per Article 230 (4) (a) of the Constitution.

The Third Remuneration and Benefits Review Cycle (2021/2022 – 2024/2025) is the basis for the current salary and benefits.


1. Salary of the President in Kenya

The President’s salary remains unchanged for the 2024/2025 financial year, following SRC’s decision to freeze salary increments for state officers.

What is Salary Market Adjustment?

  • It aligns the President’s salary with the average salary in similar positions globally.

2. Additional Benefits for the President

(i) Official Car

  • The President is provided with official transport per the government transport policy.

(ii) Medical Benefits

  • The President, their spouse, and up to four dependent children (under 25 years) are covered under an annual medical scheme:

  • The Presidential Retirement Benefits Act, 2003, applies.

(v) Travel Allowance

  • The President receives a Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA) for local and foreign trips, as per SRC-approved rates.

(vii) Official Residence

  • The State provides an official residence for the President, which includes:
    • Fully furnished house.
    • Home amenities.
    • Staff attendants.
  • The official residence is not commutable to cash.

(viii) Security

  • The Inspector-General of Police provides security to the President.
  • Security benefits cannot be converted to cash.

(ix) Annual Leave Allowance

  • KES 50,000 per year.
  • Leave days cannot be converted to cash.

The President of Kenya enjoys a competitive salary and significant benefits, including:

  • Gross Salary: KES 1,443,750 per month.
  • Official Transport & Security.
  • Medical Cover: Inpatient (KES 10M), Outpatient (KES 300K), Maternity (KES 150K).
  • Life & Accident Insurance (3x annual salary).
  • Retirement Benefits (as per law).
  • Airtime Allowance: KES 20,000 per month.
  • Official Residence (with full amenities & attendants).
  • Annual Leave Allowance: KES 50,000 per year.

The SRC has frozen salary increments for 2024/2025, meaning the President’s salary and benefits remain unchanged from 2023/2024.
