Rockstar May Be Testing 96-Player Servers for GTA 6’s Online Mode

As anticipation builds for Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), new rumors suggest Rockstar Games may be working on something massive—literally. According to fresh insider reports, the studio is testing 96-player servers for the game’s multiplayer mode, marking a dramatic increase from the current 32-player limit in GTA Online.

  • Leak: Rockstar Testing 64-Player Servers, Targeting 96
  • Why Bigger Multiplayer Lobbies Matter
  • Seamless Online Experience on the Horizon?
  • Take It with a Grain of Salt
  • Final Thoughts

If true, this upgrade would redefine the scale and dynamics of multiplayer gameplay in the GTA universe.

Leak: Rockstar Testing 64-Player Servers, Targeting 96

The news comes from Fravilys, a former editor at French fansite Rockstar Mag, who claims Rockstar is currently internally testing 64-player servers as part of GTA 6 Online development—allegedly codenamed GTA6MP.

In a post shared on Medium, Fravilys stated:

“The upcoming multiplayer game is currently at an advanced stage… with the ambition of reaching up to 96 simultaneous players per session.”

This would represent a threefold increase in player count compared to GTA V’s online mode and could position GTA 6 as one of the most immersive open-world multiplayer games ever created.

Why Bigger Multiplayer Lobbies Matter

Currently, GTA Online supports a maximum of 32 players per session. While that limit worked well for its time, the gaming world has evolved—with titles like Fortnite and Warzone already supporting 100+ player lobbies.

A 96-player GTA 6 experience would enable:

  • Chaotic large-scale heists
  • Full-city races and events
  • Crowded free-roam environments
  • Densely populated multiplayer missions

These changes could vastly expand gameplay variety, especially if the rumored map includes a fully explorable Vice City and surrounding areas.

Seamless Online Experience on the Horizon?

Fravilys also mentioned Rockstar’s goal of delivering a “seamless experience,” where players could interact across sessions without the jarring loading screens that currently interrupt GTA Online gameplay.

If implemented successfully, this feature could bring a more persistent, MMO-style world to GTA 6—something fans have long wished for.

Take It with a Grain of Salt

Despite the excitement, it’s important to note: Rockstar has not officially confirmed any of this. The studio is known for keeping development under wraps, only revealing major features close to release.

With GTA 6 expected to launch in late 2025 or early 2026, this kind of speculation is expected. While Fravilys has a history of credible leaks, nothing is official until Rockstar says so.

Final Thoughts

The idea of GTA 6 96-player servers is thrilling and aligns with industry trends toward larger, more connected game worlds. Whether or not Rockstar delivers on this ambitious scale remains to be seen—but if they do, it could elevate the franchise to new multiplayer heights.

For now, fans can only speculate, watch for official announcements, and prepare for what could be the most expansive GTA experience ever made.
