Maseno School History

Maseno School’s roots can be traced back to 1906, when it was founded as a preparatory school by missionaries under the name Kaptagat Preparatory School. Initially, it was located near Eldoret and had an enrollment of 170 students. However, the school’s historical trajectory shifted when it was relocated to Maseno, where it evolved into a significant institution in the region.

The school’s early days were marked by vocational training, including subjects like carpentry, tailoring, and clerical work. By 1910, the school’s students were pushing for a more academic curriculum, leading to the introduction of a formal educational system.

Notable alumni include Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first vice president, and Barack Obama Sr., father of the 44th U.S. President, Barack Obama.

The school was upgraded to national school status in 2012, a testament to its academic achievements and growing influence.
