History of Maranda High School

Maranda High School was founded by the late Shadrack Osewe Agot, a divinity teacher from Kapiyo village in the then-Bondo District. The school initially started as a small center offering literacy and Christianity classes to the elderly. In 1926, formal elementary education was introduced, and the school received support from the Church Missionary Society (CMS).

By 1927, Maranda became a boarding institution and grew significantly over the years, establishing itself as one of Kenya’s leading secondary schools. It has played a vital role in shaping education in the region, and by 2011, it was ranked first nationally, solidifying its reputation for academic excellence.

Maranda High School has continued to grow and expand, now serving over 3,000 students. The school offers a broad curriculum complemented by a variety of extracurricular activities, including sports, music, drama, and debate.


KCSE Performance at Maranda High School

Maranda High School has consistently performed exceptionally well in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams. In the 2024 KCSE, the school presented 562 candidates, with an impressive 95% achieving the minimum university entry grade of C+ or above.

The overall mean score for Maranda High School in 2024 was 9.6975, reflecting a slight improvement from the previous year’s performance of 9.5793.


School Fees

As a national school, Maranda High School falls under Cluster One (I) in the Ministry of Education’s 2020 guidelines for national schools. The official annual fee cap for students is Ksh 75,798. However, for 2025, the total fee for Form 2, 3, and 4 students was Ksh 85,798, inclusive of a Ksh 22,244 government capitation.
