Maranda High School Alumni Shaping Kenya’s Future

Maranda High School alumni represent a rich legacy of leadership, public service, and intellectual rigor. Located in Siaya County and founded in 1919 by Shadrack Osewe Agot, Maranda High School has grown into one of Kenya’s top-performing national schools. With consistent academic excellence and a reputation for producing transformative leaders, Maranda’s influence stretches far beyond the classroom.

Leading the political echelon of alumni is Raila Odinga, a long-serving opposition leader, former Prime Minister, and a central figure in Kenya’s democratic struggle. Raila’s father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, also attended Maranda and was Kenya’s first Vice President. A freedom fighter and founding father, Jaramogi’s contribution to Kenya’s independence and his enduring influence on Luo nationalism anchor the school’s role in the country’s liberation history.
