In 1986, Blavatnik founded Access Industries Holdings, where he serves as chairman and president. Through Access Industries, Blavatnik controls significant portions of LyondellBasell, Warner Music Group, and other publicly traded assets.
Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Blavatnik acquired numerous former state assets in Russia, particularly in the aluminum sector, becoming a major player in the industry. He invested in Sual, which later became part of United Company Rusal, the world’s largest aluminum producer. Blavatnik served on Rusal’s board from 2007 to 2016.
Blavatnik also formed the Renova investment vehicle with Viktor Vekselberg, acquiring stakes in the Irkutsk Aluminum Plant and other smelters and plants, as well as a coal mine in Kazakhstan.
