Apple’s iPhone Fold tipped to feature iPad-like display

Leaked Details Reveal iPhone Fold Will Mirror iPad’s Display Format

The iPhone Fold internal display is rumored to closely resemble the screen format of an iPad, according to a new leak from trusted source Digital Chat Station. In a Weibo post, the leaker claims that Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone will adopt a 4:3 aspect ratio for its main internal screen — a move that could make the experience more familiar for iPad users.

  • A Seamless iPhone-to-iPad Experience
  • Cover Display and Software Consistency
  • Tackling the Crease with Liquid Metal Hinge
  • Power, Performance, and Launch Timeline

A Seamless iPhone-to-iPad Experience

Apple’s goal for the iPhone Fold appears to be clear: bridge the gap between the iPhone and iPad in one single foldable device. With a 7.75-inch internal AMOLED display, the iPhone Fold would open like a book, giving users a tablet-like experience that doesn’t require switching devices.

By using a 4:3 aspect ratio — the same ratio found on iPad models including the iPad Pro — Apple can optimize the experience for multitasking, media consumption, and app compatibility. As Digital Chat Station explains, the customized display format is meant to “make the internal and external screens consistent and the software ecology to be in line with the iPad.”

That means users may eventually run iPad-optimized apps directly on the iPhone Fold, offering a more powerful productivity and entertainment experience than what current foldables can provide.

Cover Display and Software Consistency

According to the leak, the iPhone Fold will also feature a 5.49-inch external screen, useful for quick tasks and notifications without opening the device. Apple’s software ecosystem may see a significant expansion to accommodate both the folded and unfolded states, with developers encouraged to build universal apps that scale across iPhones, iPads, and now the iPhone Fold.

Tackling the Crease with Liquid Metal Hinge

Beyond usability, Apple is reportedly addressing one of the biggest challenges in foldable phone design: the crease. Prominent Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated that the iPhone Fold will use a liquid metal hinge, a highly durable mechanism that not only promises longevity but also minimizes the visibility of the crease when the device is unfolded.

Most foldable phones today still suffer from an unsightly crease in the middle of the display, which disrupts the viewing experience. Apple’s focus on durability and screen flatness could give the iPhone Fold a strong advantage over rivals from Samsung, Huawei, and others.

Power, Performance, and Launch Timeline

The iPhone Fold is also expected to feature longer battery life than existing foldables, which have historically lagged behind traditional smartphones due to their dual-screen nature. Combined with Apple’s in-house silicon and aggressive battery optimization, this could be a game-changer.

Mass production is rumored to start in late 2026, with a release expected in Q4 2026 or Q1 2027. That timeline gives Apple ample room to refine hardware, test software compatibility, and prepare a seamless launch.

The Bottom Line
The iPhone Fold internal display leak points to a strategic play by Apple — creating a foldable that feels like an iPad in disguise. With its familiar 4:3 screen, reduced crease visibility, longer battery life, and a focus on durability, the iPhone Fold might finally be the game-changing foldable device the market has been waiting for.

Stay tuned — Apple may be about to redefine the foldable phone experience.
