Apple’s long-term healthcare ambitions may soon take a bold step forward with the debut of AI-powered coaching in its Health app, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Internally dubbed Project Mulberry, the feature is expected to roll out with iOS 19.4 in 2026 and could mark the beginning of Apple’s AI redemption arc.

The Apple Health app AI coaching initiative is far more than just a minor update. It represents a strategic move to compete directly with well-established platforms like Fitbit Premium, Samsung Health, and Noom — all of which offer personalized insights that go beyond step counting or calorie tracking.

A Personalized Health Experience

Gurman reveals that Project Mulberry will tap into data from across Apple’s device ecosystem — iPhones, Apple Watches, AirPods, and more — transforming it into personalized, actionable wellness insights. Apple’s coaching will be powered by AI, but it won’t be entirely autonomous. Instead, its recommendations will reportedly be developed in collaboration with real doctors and wellness experts, giving the initiative a layer of medical credibility.

Here’s what’s reportedly in the pipeline:

  • AI-driven health coaching tailored to individual lifestyle and biometric data
  • Doctor-approved recommendations on fitness, sleep, and mental health
  • Video content covering topics like mindfulness, exercise, and health literacy
  • Advanced nutrition tracking with AI-generated meal guidance
  • Workout analysis via iPhone camera to offer real-time feedback on technique

Apple is also setting up a dedicated studio near Oakland, California, to film original content for this revamped Health experience, and is said to be scouting for a well-known physician personality to become the public face of the platform — tentatively named Health+.

Nutrition: A New Focus Area

For the first time, Apple is expected to make a serious push into nutrition tracking. Project Mulberry’s food and diet tools are intended to rival established apps like MyFitnessPal, bringing a more seamless and intelligent tracking system within the Apple ecosystem.

This move could finally position Apple as a comprehensive hub for physical and mental health — not just a companion to third-party apps.

Fitness+ Integration and the Road Ahead

There are also reports that Fitness+ may receive an AI infusion as part of this initiative. By leveraging the iPhone’s camera, Apple could enable real-time form correction, workout suggestions, and performance feedback — something fitness enthusiasts have long wanted.

Of course, Apple’s health journey has had bumps along the way, including delayed features like the non-invasive glucose sensor and the now-abandoned blood pressure monitor. Project Mulberry represents a critical opportunity to regain momentum and user trust in the AI health space.

Can Apple Deliver?

While the concept is promising, Apple has stumbled before with its AI promises — most recently with Apple Intelligence, whose delays and shortcomings have drawn criticism. For Project Mulberry to succeed, it needs to be both technically polished and genuinely helpful, not just flashy.

Whether Apple chooses a figure like Dr. Mike or another recognizable name for its campaign, the execution — not just the marketing — will determine its impact.

Conclusion

If successful, Project Mulberry could redefine how millions engage with their health. By embedding intelligent coaching, expert advice, and personalized tracking directly into the Health app, Apple has a real shot at turning it into the central health platform for iPhone and Apple Watch users.

But the biggest question remains: Can Apple finally deliver on its AI promises? iOS 19.4 may hold the answer.
