History and Development

Kumi University started as a training institute for African Christian leaders before expanding into a full university. By 2004, it was licensed as a degree-awarding institution. Plans for a medical school were announced in 2012, signaling growth into professional health sciences.

Despite challenges like under-enrollment and financial struggles that once led to staff strikes, KUMU has remained committed to expanding access to education in Eastern Uganda. Efforts to secure a full university charter are ongoing.
