Job Ochieng La Liga Move Brings New Hope for Harambee Stars
Harambee Stars prospect Job Ochieng is on the verge of making history as he eyes a La Liga debut following a new contract with Real Sociedad B. The 22-year-old Kenyan forward signed a two-year deal after an impressive run that caught the attention of the club’s technical staff.
Ochieng, a former Ligi Ndogo standout, has risen through the youth ranks at Sociedad, showcasing his potential to break into top-tier European football. His rise positions him to become the second Kenyan player in La Liga, following the trail of Michael Olunga.
A Path Paved by Hard Work and Opportunity
Ochieng’s chances of stepping into the Real Sociedad senior team have been significantly boosted by the recent promotion of Sergio Francisco—his former B team coach—to head coach of the first team. This coaching change came after Imanol Alguacil’s dismissal, according to Mozzart Sports.
Francisco, a product of the club’s Zubieta academy, has worked closely with Ochieng and was instrumental in securing the striker’s new contract. With a trusted coach now in charge, Ochieng is strongly positioned to make his first-team breakthrough.
Preseason Could Be the Launchpad
With preseason activities set for July 2025, Ochieng is expected to join the senior squad for training, where he will have the chance to prove himself worthy of La Liga minutes in the upcoming 2025/26 season.
If successful, Ochieng will join Michael Olunga, who played for Girona FC in the Spanish top flight, as only the second Kenyan to feature in La Liga. While McDonald Mariga also played in Spain, his stint was with Segunda División side Real Oviedo in 2017.
