On August 23, excitement surged among Kenyans when a new X (formerly Twitter) account purportedly belonging to Jimi Wanjigi’s daughter, Muthoni Wanjigi, appeared online. The account’s introductory post expressed enthusiasm about joining the platform, noting its role in real-time cultural and conversational exchanges.
However, Jimi Wanjigi quickly dismissed the account as fake. In a statement, he declared the account “FAKE!” and shared a screenshot to alert the public. This declaration spurred a range of reactions from Kenyans, including humorous comments from men who had already sent direct messages to the supposed account and skepticism about the account’s authenticity and timing.
The incident followed a recent high-profile event involving Wanjigi, where on August 8, police attempted to arrest him at his home. Despite their search, Wanjigi claimed he was inside the house the whole time, and alleged that the police threatened his family during the raid.
