iPhone 17 Pro Max to feature 5,000 mAh battery

The iPhone 17 Pro Max battery may finally break the 5,000 mAh barrier, according to fresh leaks from China. If true, this would make it the largest battery ever in an iPhone and a significant jump from the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s 4,685 mAh cell.

For years, Apple has gradually increased battery capacity in its Pro Max models. This time, the leap appears more substantial, bringing it in line with Android flagships, which have long hovered around or above 5,000 mAh.

A new rumor from China suggests that the iPhone 17 Pro Max battery will see a major upgrade. The flagship model could ship with a 5,000 mAh battery, making it the first iPhone to match the long-standing Android standard.

While Android devices from brands like Samsung, Google, and Xiaomi have consistently featured batteries around the 5,000 mAh mark, Apple has taken a more conservative approach. The iPhone 16 Pro Max came with a 4,685 mAh cell, a modest step up from its predecessor. If the leak is accurate, the iPhone 17 Pro Max would mark the biggest single-generation battery increase in Apple’s history.

Chinese smartphone makers have already pushed past the 5,000 mAh threshold using next-gen silicon-carbon (Si/C) battery technology. Although Apple hasn’t adopted Si/C yet, this new capacity shows Apple may be preparing to meet growing consumer demands for longer battery life.

Historically, Apple’s Pro Max line has seen incremental battery improvements—except in 2022, when the iPhone 14 Pro Max had a slightly smaller battery than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. This rumored shift to 5,000 mAh in 2025 could mark a significant performance milestone, especially in power-hungry use cases like gaming, video editing, and 5G connectivity.

As of now, Apple hasn’t confirmed the specs for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The device is expected to launch in September 2025, and battery life could become one of its headline features.
