How to Remove Lug Nuts and Tires

Removing lug nuts and tires from a vehicle is a straightforward process, but it’s important to follow proper safety procedures to avoid injury and damage to the vehicle. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. Park on a Flat Surface: Park your vehicle on a flat, stable surface and engage the parking brake to prevent it from rolling. If you’re working on a sloped surface, consider using wheel chocks to secure the vehicle’s tires.
2. Loosen Lug Nuts: Before lifting the vehicle, use a lug wrench or a breaker bar with the appropriate socket to loosen the lug nuts on the wheel you’re removing. Do not fully remove the lug nuts at this stage, just loosen them slightly to make it easier to remove them later.
3. Lift the Vehicle: Use a jack to lift the vehicle off the ground. Position the jack under the vehicle’s designated lifting points, which are typically located behind the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels along the frame or suspension components. 4. Secure the Vehicle: Once the vehicle is lifted, place jack stands under the frame or axle to support it. Never rely solely on the jack to support the vehicle while you work underneath it. Lower the jack until the vehicle is resting securely on the jack stands.
