Step 1: Visit the Civil Registry Office

To apply within Timor-Leste:

  • Go to your local Civil Registry Office
  • Bring a valid ID (passport, national identity card, etc.)
  • Provide a written request including:
    • Full names of both spouses
    • Date and place of marriage
  • Pay the application fee
  • Wait for the Registrar’s instructions on when to collect your certificate

Step 2: Apply from Outside Timor-Leste

If you’re currently abroad:

  • Contact the nearest Timor-Leste Embassy or Consulate
  • The Consular Services Section will help process your request
  • Submit:
    • A valid photo ID
    • A written request with marriage details
  • The Embassy will liaise with the Ministry of Justice to retrieve your certificate

Eligibility

You are eligible to request a marriage certificate if you are:

  • Marriage Certificate Fee: MZN 50.00
    (Fees may vary slightly for embassy-assisted requests)

Validity

A marriage certificate is valid permanently. It is a lifelong civil record unless legally annulled or amended.

  • Applications are usually processed within 2 working days
  • For embassy-assisted requests, additional time is needed due to international communication
